Josh Knauer is a social entrepreneur, technologist, and speaker with over 25 years of experience leading successful organizations in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. Known for his ability to identify emerging technological trends that benefit society and the environment, Josh has raised over $12 million from investors and successfully sold two startups to public companies.
Currently, Josh is a Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and an Executive in Residence at Columbia University Technology Ventures/NYSERDA. Appointed by President Obama to the Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, Josh has been featured in Time, Fortune, and Wired, and has delivered keynote speeches at global conferences such as CES, SXSW, and Adweek.
After selling Rhiza to Nielsen in 2017, where he served as Senior Vice President of Product and Strategy, Josh focused on integrating AI and data visualization into tools that empower businesses to make informed decisions. Prior to Rhiza, he founded Green Marketplace, later sold to Gaiam, and the EnviroLink Network, one of the internet's first environmental nonprofits.
Josh is deeply committed to mentoring entrepreneurs creating socially and environmentally responsible businesses. Outside of his professional ventures, he enjoys gardening, hiking, and spending time with his wife, children, dogs, and chickens in Pittsburgh, PA.
